Arizona is a typical family boardgame for 2 to 4 players and itīs settled in an american Goldrush-Area. The gameboard shows a small town, having a Sheriff, Jail, Store, Bank, Saloon, Registrary, Hotel, Gold-Bureau and a Smithy. Along some ways around the town, 26 claims are distributed, and each of these places gets a random event card before the game.

Each player takes up the role of a digger, leaving town in order to find Gold. For this, he travels to the claims and has a look on the random event card which has been deposited there. If it is Gold, he might place his claim symbol there and then travel to the Registrary in oder to register his claim. If a claim is registered, only this player may return there and he may take one of the 20 Gold-Chips on the Board every time he gets back to the claim. Other events include "No Gold" or even something else which might force a player to visit a certain building in town before he can dig on. Players may duel for Gold they have, and thus the player who finally has the most Gold at the Bank wins.

When I found this game at a flea-market in summer 1997, being for sale for about 2 US$, I was very positively surprised by its contents. The game contains a fine looking board and nicely shaped diggers. An even greater surprise was the fact that the game was published by Pelikan, a company which was known to me only because they sell all sorts of bureau-stuff. Although the rules seem a little bit incomplete on some questions, these gaps can be filled and a very nice game is left. Players have different options for strategy (mining Gold, hunting other Diggers, placing a Mine Symbol on a Dead Claim), and these make the game very playable for 3 or 4 players. A fine Game.
