Welcome to a new round in the everlasting fight between Gardener and Mole !

In this two-player-game one player takes the role of the Gardener who tries to protect his flowers from being turned upside down, and the other player takes the part of the Mole, trying to build long tunnels in order to escape the Gardenerīs wrath. At the beginning of a game, the Mole places his first Molehill (=his actual position) anywhere on the gameboard. Then the Gardener is allowed to place his first fence, a border which cannot be crossed by the Mole anymore. During his turn, the Mole may place a new Hill anywhere (horizontally, vertically or diagonally) next to his last Hill. Then again the Gardener places a fence, and this goes on until the Mole has placed all 20 possible Hills or until the Mole cannot move anymore, since he is fenced in and cannot reenter a place where he already was.

The Mole gets Victory Points for each Hill after Hill No.10, and he gets additional points for each flower-bed he crossed. Very important for the Moleīs movement is the small Molehill in the center of the gameboard. When the Mole enters this field, he may continue movement from anywhere on the gameboard. But since there is only one such field, this option is useable only once each game. After a game the players change sides, and the player who scores most points being the Mole wins the game.

Mole Hill is an example how a very good game can be made with only minor expense. As always with a Reiner Knizia game, the rules of the game are cleverly developed but easy to understand. In fact, this game has a a high addiction factor. During play, you can virtually see the little Mole speeding through the garden, followed by a cursing, frustrated Gardener. Itīs high fun to speed in the direction of a flower-bed and see the Gardener desperatly trying to put up a "Line of Defense" in front of his prized roses. The game even has a low-price, since it is published in the Blatz small-box series. Thatīs the way a game must be !
